In a post on the official E3 Twitter account, the following statement was posted
Reedpop and the Entertainment Software Association have announced (ESA) have announced that both the digital and physical events for E3 2023 have been cancelled.Source: Official E3 Twitter Account
The ESA sent out an email to multiple news publications, and there has since been a joint statement from the ESA and Reedpop, stating that they cancelled it due to “Lack of sustained interest”
This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3, We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.Kyle Marsden-Kish, Global VP of Gaming, ReedPop via RockPaperShotgun
The event was scheduled to take place from the 13th to the 16th of June 2023, and would have been the first in person E3 since 2019. However many months before the event, big entertainment companies such as Nintendo, SEGA, Ubisoft and others stated they will not be attending, which may have been the reason behind the cancelling.
