As of the latest Minecraft update, all mentions of “Notch” have been removed from the game’s code.
This report was confirmed by PC Gamer.
In the game ‘Made by Notch!’ and ‘The Work of Notch!’ one of the many taglines, which the game’s start screen is known for, that could appear at any given time.
The strings seem to have been replaced with new taglines like ‘Don’t worry, be happy!’ and ‘Go to the dentist.’
The general consensus? It is most likely Microsoft distancing themselves from Markus Persson, who is still credited for creating Minecraft despite Microsoft’s distancing.
