No, The ‘Switch 2’ Hasn’t Leaked on Twitter

Buyer beware! Because it’s fake.

On Twitter, since Elon Musk took over, accounts have been able to pay $8 a month to have a blue tick next to their name. A symbol that comes as a symbol of credibility and authenticity, which anyone can purchase and receive on their account without any identification checks, is a recipe for disaster. Well, we’ve just seen the latest exploits of this subscription, and it affects the Nintendo community.

You see, a Twitter account (@ChitoGamingLive) has posted a “leak” they claim to be the Nintendo Switch’s successor (referred to in this post as “Switch 2”). To be fair, they’ve said to take it with a grain of salt, but there’s a lot more here to call into question.

Even setting aside the “Switch 2” branding and “Q1 2024 release” window, both of which are highly unlikely coming from Nintendo, there are several discrepancies in these images. As pointed out by the lovely Ollie Reynolds over at Nintendo Life, the Joy-Con are absolutely egregious to look at, and several UI elements are inverted or inconsistent (see Splatoon 3’s inverted cover or Tears of the Kingdom’s title being in all capital letters).

We at Kakariko Herald do believe an eventual successor to the Nintendo Switch is inevitable, and might come late next year or early in 2025. We know the successor exists by way of Nintendo’s company President Shuntaro Furukawa himself, who recently confirmed the next system would utilize the Nintendo Accounts system. However, we can at minimum confirm that this particular leak is fake.
