Here's Everything Announced for "Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream" Today
Island paradise awaits. Releasing April 16, 2026!
As promised, Nintendo held their Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream-themed Nintendo Direct presentation today and unveiled a ton of new details about the game. We've spent most of the day (besides a nap) collecting all the info we could find and putting it in one place for you!

While not in the Direct itself, Nintendo has confirmed in a support article that players will be unable to use some of the Capture functions on the Switch and Switch 2 consoles directly within Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. In a statement to our friends over at GameXplain, Nintendo of America confirmed this affects transferring captures to smart devices, automatic image uploads to the Switch app (on Switch 2 only), and posting directly to social media.
You'll still be able to use workarounds such as transferring to your PC via USB or connecting an external capture card (such as one from Elgato, EVGA XR-1 Lite, etc.) to the console to capture images/video and share to social media, however.
More inclusive relationships and options

Following on from a promise they made following the 3DS game's launch over a decade ago, players can now choose to have their Miis be attracted to other characters of the same gender or more than one gender. In addition to the options to have a Mii be male or female, they can now select an option for their Miis to be non-binary!
Miis can now have up to 8 roommates!

Now that there isn't a central apartment building (unlike previous entries in the series), players can now have their Miis become roommates with one another. Up to eight can occupy one building at a given time. As shown in the Direct (we've added their example above), this will take some convincing and players have a choice of predetermined options or they can enter in their own suggestions.
"Mii Problems" make a return

Mii Problems make a return in this entry, this time occuring both inside and outside of Mii's apartments/homes. In the Direct, they show both examples of this--with the above being Angie (the main character of the North American Direct) falling over and needing some assistance getting up.
Island customization features introduced!

Players can now fully customize their islands--from the layout of shops, houses/apartment buildings, all the way to roads and greenery. New items used to decorate the island with can be purchased at a shop called "Quik Build." Additionally, players' Mii islanders can also ask for certain decorations to be placed.
New Mii customization options

New Mii customization options are available in this entry, including face paint (which feels similar to drawing on an islander's face while they were sleeping in Tomodachi Life for 3DS.)
In addition, Miis can now have "little quirks" given to them to make them each unique--separate from their given personalities. Like the previous entry on 3DS, players can also gift them with a catchphrase to say at the end of their sentences!
Palette House

Palette House is a new building in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream that allows players to design and ultimately give their Mii islanders custom items, such as pets, drinks, and even clothing. In the North American Direct, this was used to give an islander a pet dog!
Mii News makes a return as MNN

Mii News has made its return in this game, serving an almost-identical role to the previous entry on 3DS. The news bulletins shared on Mii News will be randomly selected daily, and will contain some subjectively hilarious escapades players' islanders may or may not have gotten up to.
Other discoveries
Switch 2 Compatibility
As I noted on Twitter, Nintendo's website currently has Switch 2 compatibility listed as "untested," with no further details on whether the release will be available in 4K on the console (like it is for titles like Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario Odyssey.) Further, they've only mentioned the game is "playable" on Switch 2–with no mentions of specific enhancements. Right now, it appears the game runs at 1080p30 on Switch and Switch 2. If they do update this page, though, we'll be sure to let you know!
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is available for preorder on the eShop now for $59.99 USD. It releases worldwide on April 16, 2026.
