Reintroducing Kakariko Herald

This is the Start of An Evolution

Almost a year ago now, Tyson and I (Slade) walked into a Discord VC together and floated the idea of bringing Kakariko Herald back with a renewed purpose. But we both agreed, we couldn’t do it without doing things better than we were doing them before. What we’ve come up with is something we’re extremely proud of–and it comes down to three brand-new pillars: Community, Design, and Blogging.

Community

We’ve started our entire website from scratch on Ghost, shedding the “tech debt” of the past for something strong. For the first time since 2022, we’ve brought back comments and added an account system! We don’t store passwords–everything is passwordless, the only thing we need is an email address (whether it’s an “iCloud email alias” or your actual one, we’ll protect your information!)

We’re also offering a simple subscription service (which we’re calling KH+) for just $2/month or $18/year (USD) that gives you access to even more features on our site. While the core of our site, articles, will always remain free–this subscription gives you access to exclusive videos, podcasts, and other types of content in return for helping us pay our hosting costs and continue going for years to come!

While all of our daily gaming news coverage will always remain free, Kakariko Herald+ is a subscription built right into our site with even more exclusive features, articles, and other content. Consider subscribing today to help support our independent journalism and keep our website going!

Design

Redesigned by dootskyre, the new Kakariko Herald emblem is inspired more by “neumorphism.” With improved shading, and a slight tweak to the emblem’s design, Sky has brought a refined look while not removing the iconic elements that make Kakariko Herald’s emblem unique! The design more clearly references the Kakariko Village of the desert from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess – and we’ve also updated the emblem’s base colors for the first time. This ushers in a more modern design era that will lend itself to the site’s branding efforts for years to come.

Finally, for the wide logo, we’ve introduced the use of “Hey Gorgeous,” which ties everything into the branding of Tyson and I’s Rogueport Media label.

Blogging

We wanted to keep the same editorial content that we had before–just with an elevated quality. So, we’re prioritizing that. You’ll be getting carefully considered articles: no more rushing posts out for the sake of rushing them out. We’ll still post patch notes and stuff like that, but we’ll also be posting more detailed things like guides for how to do things in the games you love and even deep-dive articles, as well. This truly is a new journey (with some familiar elements, of course) for us!!

Conclusion

And that’s everything for today! But there’s SO MUCH we aren’t able to announce to you quite yet.

To close, we want to thank you for reading Kakariko Herald–whether it’s your first day here, or your three-hundredth. We appreciate your support! Now we turn the floor over to you–got any feedback for us? Let us know by emailing [email protected]. We’ll read over everything that you send our way (though obviously, we can’t guarantee a response to EVERY message!)

We plan to ramp into making this website even more special as we go, and expanding Kakariko Herald into something bigger. We can’t wait to share it with you!

Cheers,
Slade & Tyson
